That's what I bought at Cole's tonight: tuna and tea. I'm trying to eat up everything that I have left and not really buy new food, but that's what I got. I mean, the tuna's good for random sandwiches and the Lipton's Peach Ice Tea is just amazingly good here! Is it like that at home?!? Plus, I feel healthier if I'm drinking tea than soda. It's so weird to be wrapping everything up. I've had two finals this past week. My Nyungar Studies one was on Tuesday and I think it went alright. 'Course, I was the last one to arrive and had NO clue how to take a final exam Aussie style. You go into a room and your teachers are there, but also a Monitor. And they are strict. First, fill out the little form thing that they will collect soon after everything starts. Then five minutes for reading instructions (which is pointless when the teachers give you the questions ahead of time - it's just necessary to check them off with your eyes, I mean "tick" them off with your eyes) and NO WRITING during this time. Then - Go! Fun stuff, hey? The teachers leave and the Monitor monitors, marching up and down the aisles. Had another exam last night. That's right - from 6:00 to 8:05. It was made up of two essays and we already had the questions, so all I had to do was a rough outline and I was ready to go. Five o'clock rolled around and I was like, c'mon! Let me just write this stuff already! Why at 6?!?!? Actually, I felt like that one went pretty well. I could stress because I don't exactly know how formal my essays were, but I just added personality. I'm thinking that they will keep the reader interested in what I'm saying next, and dare I hope, entertained? Besides, my prof has a sense of humor and - it is Comedy class....Plus, one of the plays I wrote on was set in Chicago and can't you just hear the old Hollywood banter going back and forth Chicago-style??? I've given away books. That's right - it's like tearing my heart out over and over again. I bought a copy of Eldest (sequel to Eragon) when I came over here 'cause I had started it before I left and didn't get to finish it. My friend Aisling had been looking for a book to read and had considered Eragon so I handed over Eldest and told her she could buy the first one and get two reads. Tuesday I took Ella Enchanted over to Kate - that one didn't hurt as much 'cause I've got a copy at home and only bought one here for use in an essay because my teacher needed to see a copy. Drat that! And then, of course, there was Jack, the biography of C.S. Lewis. Pretty good read, hard to get into at first, but I learned a lot about the guy and the books he wrote and now Fletcher, head of Christian Union can dive into the genius. It's gonna leave a scar.... Sheets will get washed and go to Fleur. So will the lovely dishes that I got at Target and frankly, didn't really use here. I've been mentally checking off things that will get circularly filled when my suitcases are waiting open-mouthed. And there are the special circumstances - like my one-and-only checkered Vans and my tennis shoes, which will enjoy a brief New Zealand outing and then kaput. Soon to have a fond farewell
Oh, right - so, I'm hitting Sydney for a week and then shooting down to New Zealand for another. This girl that I met on my Easter trip is going with me - her name is Lindsey and she's from Cleveland. She's pretty cool, attending University of Western Australia for the semester, and we have met up once since the trip. But we're franticly trying to figure out what is going on. At least we've got the NZ tix purchases...yep! We might be hitting the slopes together - yeah, watch out!
I'm trying to make all my last visits. It's depressing when you think about it. Went to the Subiaco market last week, probably for the last time. I don't think I'll need to go back, unless I get a serious craving for the green, wheel-shaped, bacon-flavored rice cracker things that have drawn me there time and time again. (That's because I bought some last Saturday and I still have some left.) I also still have some grapes that cost me a fortune in the fresh-fruit market. I'd be shaking my head if you could see me right now, well, I still am even if you can't. I had been hoping to get down to Fremantle again, because I had been there since the beginning of the semester for the Freo Prison Tour and a delicious dinner of fish'n'chips. So, I worked my way in that direction last Friday. The funny thing was that I caught the bus, and then the train, with this friend here, Kabz, who was one her way to work. Then I got there and wandered around a bit. There was this great vintage store which I just loved! Tried on a few things, but nothing really grabbed me. And there was a didgeridoo place next door where I got to try one out (wasn't much good) and had a great conversation with one of the employees about youth groups and DRL and God and church. It was pretty amazing and very encouraging. He was this guy that was in a Christian home, but didn't do much with it and suddenly decided to go back to God and then everything really fell into place for him. Got involved in working with the youth group, met his wife, yeah. Pretty cool. Then I headed towards the Freo Market and wandered around a bit, looking at opals (they were triplets and not very exciting) and some beads and then! I turned around and there's Aisling and her British boyfriend who's in town for the rest of her time there! So we spectated a bit more and then went and got fish and chips together. Then Kabz was on the train again and we ran errands in the city (who knew it was open on a Friday night?!? Not me!) and then home. It really was a crazy, fun day though! If only I could make train grafitti like that.... Me, Kabz and Aisling
I actually think I might head towards Freo again tomorrow. I haven't got another exam till Monday and that means no studying till Sunday! So, I'll go down and see what I can see. Fremantle is the coastal town. All the wharfs and docks and shipping ports are down there. There are a lot of cool little shops - it's a pretty chill place, it seems. It really is too bad that I haven't got down there more. But after I get into the city, it's an hour by train and that's just a bit too much some days. This means I should get up tomorrow. This means I should go to bed soon. About midnight here. So, I'll jet... Here's a picture of me being superly something to keep you amused... Don't mess with us. We got a black couch and we're not afraid to get up off it!
